I unfollowed the Kardashians.. and my beauty standards have never been more realistic.

Four months, I was triggered somehow into becoming more self-aware, and started to feel this pinch of jealousy, envy, self-hatred every time I saw a model, or Kardashian-esque figure on the Instagram. It was so persistent, and nagging every time I scrolled down this never-ending rabbit hole, but I was still on my phone for hours at a time. Full-disclosure: this isn't a Kardashian-hating post. I actually really admire them. I think they are great entrepreneurs, business-women in general and have continued climbing for the past decade. That kind of work ethic is something I strive for.

But while creating my puppy's Instagram (yes I'm THAT dog mom), I had this serge of energy with the idea of having a blank slate on social media. I vowed not to login to my personal account's newsfeed, only George (my puppy)'s which followed only funny and positive accounts.

The past few months I've been noticeably much happier than normal..

I buy clothes that are my current size. I was a size 4 two years ago but I am a size 8 now and I'm embracing it. I look forward to picking out an outfit in the morning.. without the need to see if my "skinny jeans" might fit again. I've tossed all skinny clothes!

My makeup routine is much shorter and more natural. Concealer, blush, and mascara. I've learned to love the natural look instead of trying to hide with my caked on foundation and heavy eyeliner. (Friday nights out are still an exception to wear fake eyelashes and extensions!)

I've given up the FaceTune app. I'm letting my Facebook friends see the real, authentic me and I'm not ashamed of it. I'm probably never going to be an Instagram model, so I'm not sure who I was ever trying so hard to impress.

I've not felt stress over my diet, or gym time, but I have still gone 3x a week. I have felt positive and forgiving, happy and fulfilled. I've learned that when I avoid the crazy standards and the perfection that comes with the Kardashians, I can live my life better and without regret!

I don't know if there is any science to this, but try it and let me know if it helps you!

Xo,

E
